Pacific Electric Right-of-Way /
West Santa Ana Branch Corridor Alternatives Analysis
OC, LA Working Together to Study Transit Options
As a follow up to the Orange and Los Angeles Intercounty Transportation Study that was completed in July 2008, the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), in coordination with OCTA and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, is conducting a study to assess the feasibility of transit service along the Pacific-Electric Right-of-Way connecting Orange and Los Angeles Counties.
The 20-mile stretch of railroad right-of-way was once a part of the Pacific Electric Railway system, extending from Santa Ana in Orange County to Paramount in Los Angeles. At this time, the majority of the right-of-way has been abandoned and is not currently used for mass transit purposes.
The study will include an extensive outreach effort involving local jurisdictions along the corridor, elected official briefings, public workshops, a Technical Advisory Committee and a Steering Committee.
The objective of the study is to examine potential transit service along the corridor to help ease congestion between Orange County and Los Angeles and provide additional transportation options to commuters.
The study began in March 2010 and will take approximately 18 months to complete.
